Open Electrical
Solar and electrical specialists for homes and businesses across South East Queensland. Web design and ongoing SEO.
The
Challenge.
Open Electrical install solar, batteries and EV chargers across South East Queensland, and they were good at it long before anyone could find them. In May 2025 the site sat at an average Google position of 45. That is page five. For all practical purposes it did not exist in search, and the work was coming from referral and repeat custom rather than anything the website was doing.
The harder problem was that solar is a considered purchase with a long runway. Nobody wakes up and buys a fourteen kilowatt system. They read about rebates for a month first, then feed-in tariffs, then whether a battery is worth it. A site that only answers "we install solar in Brisbane" arrives far too late in that process.
Invisible in search.
Average position 45 across the board. Ranking on page five earns nothing, and the site was not competing for a single commercial term that mattered.
A long, research-heavy sale.
Solar buyers spend weeks reading before they enquire. There was nothing on the site that met them during that stretch, so the whole research phase went to competitors.
Competing with national installers.
The big operators outspend a Brisbane installer comfortably. Winning on budget alone was never going to happen.
Our
Approach.
We went after the reading, not just the buying. Queensland households searching for rebates, feed-in tariffs and the state free electricity scheme are solar customers who have not started shopping yet, and almost nobody was answering those questions properly.
Alongside that, the commercial side of the site was separated from the residential side. A business weighing up a hundred kilowatt array has nothing in common with a homeowner adding a battery, and forcing both down the same page served neither.
The rest was unglamorous and ongoing. Technical fixes, service and location pages that stand on their own, and content added steadily rather than in one burst.
Answer the research, not just the sale.
Content built around what Queensland households actually search while they are still deciding. Rebates, tariffs, battery payback, the free electricity scheme.
Split commercial from residential.
Separate paths for a homeowner adding a battery and a business costing a commercial array. Different budgets, different objections, different pages.
Own the local terms properly.
Brisbane and the surrounding suburbs handled as real pages rather than a list of place names, so each one can rank on its own merit.
Keep publishing.
A steady cadence rather than a launch spike. Regulation around solar changes constantly, and the site now moves with it.

The
Results.
The site moved from an average position of 45 to 6.5. In plain terms, page five to page one. That single shift is what everything else rests on, because positions forty places down earn nothing no matter how much traffic sits behind the query.
Organic clicks are running around five times where they started, and the site now takes roughly 84,000 search impressions a quarter. The informational strategy did what it was supposed to: the free electricity and rebate content ranks in the top ten and brings in people who are still weeks away from buying, while the brand and product terms sit at or near the top of page one for people who are ready now.
It is still ongoing. Nothing here was a one-off campaign.
Page five to page one.
Average Google position improved from 45 to 6.5 across the site.
Around 5x the organic clicks.
Sustained, not a spike. Monthly organic clicks are roughly five times where they were when we started.
84,000 impressions a quarter.
The site is now visible on a large volume of Queensland solar and energy searches it previously never appeared for.
Found during research, not just at purchase.
Top-ten rankings on rebate and free electricity queries put the business in front of buyers weeks before they are ready to enquire.
